COMPOSER PROFILE

Afgansyah Reza

If there are 10 of Indonesia's top singers to be honored today, then Afgan is one of them.

Afgan has been around the music industry since 2008 when he debuted his album, My Confession No.1 with "Terima Kasih Cinta", a hit song that often graced TV and radio. The hit "Terima Kasih Cinta" also earned Afgan the 2009 Anugerah Musik Indonesia trophy as Best Solo Male Singer. In addition to "Terima Kasih Cinta", the album My Confession No.1 also produced the hit "Sadis" which is often a high request on many private radios in the country.

In this album too, not only as a singer, Afgan also began to try his expertise as a songwriter by contributing "My Confession" his own song creation.

Since he began recording his voice at WannaB Instant Recording Studio and was noticed by producer Wanna B Music Production which led to record deals until he was contracted by Sony Music for his first album, Afgan is known for his unique voice. A blend of pop, soul, R&B and jazz styles was born from a thin and soft voice type, very different from male singers at the time.

In addition, his songwriting talent is even more interesting. In his fourth album, SIDES, which was released in 2016, Afgan began to write most of the songs on the album.

Afgan's musical style is also growing, from just mellow and romantic songs, Afgan tries a new approach by writing and singing more upbeat songs, such as through his collaboration with Isyana Sarasvati and Rendy Pandugo in the song "Heaven". His musical explorations are getting better with his sixth album, Wallflower, which was released in 2021 and is his first release with international label, Empire Distribution.

The album, which features collaborations with Got7 member Jackson Wang and several other international producers, gave birth to three main singles "Say I'm Sorry" and "M.I.A" as well as "If I Don't Have Your Love" which shows his musical progressivity.
