Cholil Mahmud
Cholil Mahmud is one of the best singers and lyricists ever come from Indonesian music.
Although he came from the sidestream music scene through the band Efek Rumah Kaca, which he formed a long time ago, the band's movement in voicing humanist issues and political and social criticism has been appreciated by many people, especially young people from generation to generation.
Cholil himself is known for his sharp and straightforward lyrics, his ability to process the anxiety of his life which is then connected to the political, legal, socio-cultural situation makes the songs he writes more contained.
This is reflected in the 4 albums he has written with Efek Rumah Kaca, from Efek Rumah Kaca (2007), Kamar Gelap (2008) and Sinestesia (2015) and latest Rimpang (2023) These albums produced good works and managed to catapult Efek Rumah Kaca's name to various music awards, one of which was the Indonesian Music Award.
One of their hit songs, "Cinta Melulu", "Teenage Delinquency in the Informatics Era", "Di Udara", "December" and many more are featured on many streaming playlists and are songs they often sing in concerts.
Together with Efek Rumah Kaca, Cholil, who now lives in New York, has traveled to various events, one of which is the prestigious SXSW (South By Southwest) festival in Austin, Texas, United States. A festival that introduced the Greenhouse Effect to the world.
